York railway station, operated by East Coast, serves the historic North Yorkshire city of York. The station lies on the East Coast Main Line which connects London to Peterborough, Doncaster, Wakefield, Leeds, York, Darlington, Newcastle and Edinburgh. The station is roughly 190 miles from both London and Edinburgh. The station has a staffed ticket office although passengers should note that it is not open in the late evening. Passengers are able to collect tickets purchased in advance (for example, on the internet) from one of the automatic ticket machines located in the station.

All platforms except 9, 10 and 11 are under the large, curved, glass and iron roof and are accessed via a long footbridge (which also connects to the National Railway Museum) or via lifts and either of two pedestrian tunnels.

Facilities at the station include ATM's, pay phones, public wifi, cafe, shops, toilets and baby changing facilities.

Passenger services calling at the station are operated by CrossCountry, East Midlands Trains, First TransPennine Express, Grand Central, East Coast and Northern Rail. Leamington railway station is operated by Chiltern Railways and is located on three lines: One heading south east towards Banbury and then on to London Marylebone and two heading to the north. One towards Birmingham and the other towards Coventry. Passenger services calling at the station are operated by Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry and London Midland.

Chiltern Railways operate services between London Marylebone and Birmingham Snow Hill and roughly 30 minute intervals. Additional trains operate between London Marylebone and Stratford-upon-Avon and roughly 2 hourly intervals. CrossCountry operate long distance services from the station at roughly four trains per hour - two heading north towards Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield and two to the south towards Reading, Bournemouth and Southampton Central. London Midland operate services to Birmingham Snow Hill, Stourbridge Junction and Worcester during peak times in the morning and evening.
