The station lies on the South Western Main Line which connects London Waterloo railway station with Weymouth on the south coast. The station has two platforms in operation. Platform 1, on the western side of the station, has a line running in a northerly direction towards Basingstoke, Woking, Clapham Junction and London Waterloo.
