Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Castle is an historic fortress which dominates the skyline of Edinburgh in Scotland. There has been a royal castle on the site since the 12th century. Most of the present castle date from around the 16th century with the notable exception of St Margaret's Chapel which dates from the 12th century. The castle is Scotland's most visited tourist attraction with some 1.2 million visitors in 2012. The castle is also the backdrop to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo during the annual Edinburgh International Festival the castle has become a recognisable symbol of Edinburgh and of Scotland.
