A.F.C. Bournemouth football club plays in the Championship, the second tier of English football, and plays its home games at the Goldsands Stadium, Bournemouth. The club was formed in 1899 and is nicknamed The Cherries. The club adopted the name A.F.C. Bournemouth in 1972 although the club is still officially registered as Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic Football Club.
