Southampton Central railway station, operated by South West Trains, serves the Hampshire city of Southampton. Despite its name, Southampton Central is situated some distance from the centre of the city although it is now the closest station to the centre. The station lies on the South Western Main Line, which connects London Waterloo to Weymouth, the Wessex Main Line from Bristol Temple Meads to Southampton, and the West Coastway Line from Brighton to Southampton. The station has a staffed ticket office although passengers should note that it is not open in the late evening. Passengers are able to collect tickets purchased in advance (for example, on the internet) from one of the automatic ticket machines located in the station. Facilities at the station include ATM's, pay phones, cafe, shops, toilets and baby changing facilities.Passenger services calling at the station are operated by First Great Western, CrossCountry, South West Trains and Southern. Between them passenger services generally depart towards London Waterloo, Eastleigh, Weymouth, Poole, Portsmouth, Southsea, London Victoria, Horsham, Brighton, Manchester Piccadilly and Birmingham New Street.Parking is available at the station for 182 vehicles and is open 24 hours a day.
