About Sheffield
Sheffield is a city located in South Yorkshire and takes its name from the River Sheaf which runs through the city. The city lies in the valleys of the River Don and its four tributaries, the Loxley, the Porter Brook, the Rivelin and the Sheaf. The city has gained a reputation for its steel production which began in the 19th century. The city is home to many innovations including crucible and stainless steel which led to an almost tenfold increase in its population during the Industrial Revolution. Sheffield is a very green city with more than 250 parks, woodlands and gardens in the city.
Sheffield is a major retail centre and is home to many national chain stores, department stores and designer boutiques. The main shopping areas in the city centre are The Moor precinct, Fargate, Orchard Square and the Devonshire Quarter. Outside the city centre is Meadowhall shopping centre and retail park.
Sheffield has been home to several well-known bands and musicians, with an unusually large number of synthpop and other electronic bands originating from the city. These include The Human League, Heaven 17 and ABC. Also the Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, Paul Carrack, Richard Hawley and Joe Cocker were either born or established in Sheffield.
About Norwich
Located in the county of Norfolk, the city of Norwich and is roughly 115 miles to the north east of London. The city is a convenient base for exploring the Norfolk Broads, the North Norfolk Coast, along with the whole county of Norfolk. Norwich is a fairly small city and can easily be explored on foot. However, if you choose to use a bus most services are operated by FirstGroup and are useful for getting to the railway station and the riverside entertainment district, the university and the airport.
The River Yare is navigable from the sea at Great Yarmouth all the way to Trowse, south of the city. From there the River Wensum is navigable into Norwich up to New Mills, and is crossed by the Novi Sad Friendship Bridge. Scheduled trips through the city and out to The Broads are available from outside Norwich railway station and also Elm Hill. Recently Norwich City Council gave the go-ahead to introduce punting on the River Wensum.
The City of Norwich Aviation Museum is located at Horsham St. Faith, close to Norwich Airport. There are static displays of both military and civil aircraft, together with various collections of exhibits, including one concerned with the United States 8th Army Air Force.
