Preston Train Station

Preston railway station, operated by Virgin Trains, serves the Lancashire city of Preston and lies on the West Coast Main Line which connects London to the West Midlands, the North West, North Wales and the Central Belt of Scotland. The station has a staffed ticket office although passengers should note that it is not open in the late evening. Passengers are able to collect tickets purchased in advance (for example, on the internet) from one of the automatic ticket machines located in the station.

Facilities at the station include ATM's, pay phones, cafe, shops, toilets and baby changing facilities. The main entrance to the station is at the bottom of the station approach, a ramp off the bridge that carries Fishergate over the railway. The ticket office exists within the small concourse. This concourse gives direct access, down the ramp, to the intercity platforms 3 and 4.

Passenger services calling at the station are operated by First TransPennine Express, Northern Rail, Virgin Trains and First ScotRail. Passenger services generally depart towards Blackpool North, Blackpool South, Burnley, Liverpool Lime Street, Manchester Victoria, York, Lancaster, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Warrington, Birmingham International, Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Airport and London Euston. First ScotRail operate their "Highland" Caledonian Sleeper service with a call at Preston to and from the Scottish Highlands.

Glasgow Central railway station is adjacent to the Central Hotel on Gordon Street. Adjoining onto the station concourse, it was one of Glasgow's most prestigious hotels in its heyday. In June 2009, a new company acquired the hotel building, and planned to refurbish and rebrand it as the Glasgow Grand Central Hotel. The refurbished hotel re-opened in September 2010.
