It is one of two main line stations serving the city, the other being Glasgow Queen Street. The station is the northern terminus of the West Coast Main Line which connects London, the West Midlands, the North West, North Wales and the Central Belt of Scotland. The station has a staffed ticket office although passengers should note that it is not open in the late evening. Passengers are able to collect tickets purchased in advance (for example, on the internet) from one of the automatic ticket machines located in the station. Facilities at the station include ATM's, pay phones, public wifi, cafe, shops, toilets and baby changing facilities. Passenger services calling at the station are operated by CrossCountry, First TransPennine Express, Virgin Trains, East Coast and First ScotRail. The station serves all of the Greater Glasgow conurbation's southern suburbs and towns, the Ayrshire and Clyde coats. Destinations generally include Birmingham New Street, Edinburgh Waverley, London King's Cross, Newcastle Central, Stranraer Harbour, Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston.Parking is available at the station for 555 vehicles and is open 24 hours a day.

Located in Cumbria, Oxenholme Lake District railway station offers passengers destinations including London, Birmingham New Street, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Carlisle and Manchester Airport.Oxenholme Lake District railway station, operated by Virgin Trains, is located on the West Coast Main Line which connects London to the West Midlands, the North West, North Wales and the Central Belt of Scotland. The station is also the start of the Windermere Branch Line to Windermere. Passenger services calling at the station are operated by Virgin Trains and First TransPennine Express. The station is the only village station currently served by express trains on the West Coast Main Line, with all the other stations on this route serving either towns or cities.There is normally a train at least every two hours to London and every hour to Birmingham New Street and to Carlisle with most of these continuing to either Edinburgh or Glasgow. Services between Manchester Airport and Windermere/Glasgow/Edinburgh also serve the station, although most Windermere services now start/terminate here rather than running through to Preston and Manchester.Facilities at the station include pay phones, cafe, shops, toilets and baby changing facilities. Passengers should note that ATM's are not available the station. Parking is available at the station for 129 vehicles and is open 24 hours a day.
