The station has a staffed ticket office and passengers are also able to collect tickets purchased in advance (for example, on the internet) from one of the automatic ticket machines located in the station.

Princes Street, the premier shopping street in Edinburgh, runs along one side of the station and North Bridge, a three-span iron and steel bridge constructed in 1897, passes over the station's eastern section.
