Castle Cary London Paddington Train

Castle Cary railway station, operated by First Great Western, serves a largely rural area in Somerset, England and lies on the Reading to Taunton Line approximately 115 miles to the west of London Paddington. Despite its rural location for one week every year the station plays host to the travelling thousands heading to the Glastonbury Music Festival which is held in nearby Pilton. During the festival additional train services are provided along with special bus buses which operate from the railway station to the festival site.

The station has a staffed ticket office although passengers should note that it is not open in the late evening. Passengers are able to collect tickets purchased in advance (for example, on the internet) from one of the automatic ticket machines located in the station. Facilities at the station include refreshments and toilets although passengers should note that ATM's and baby changing facilities are not provided.

All passenger services calling at the station are operated by First Great Western and offer passengers destinations including London Paddington, Penzance, Bristol and Weymouth. The station has three platforms with the main station building and ticket office located on Platform 1.

Parking is available at the station for 100 vehicles and is open 24 hours a day.

The site has been the London terminus of the Great Western Railway and its successors since 1838. Much of the mainline station dates from 1854 and was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The site was first served by Underground trains in 1863, as the original western terminus of the Metropolitan Railway, the world's first underground railway.
