Birmingham Snow Hill Train Station

Birmingham Snow Hill railway station, operated by London Midland, is one of three main railway station serving Birmingham City Centre. The other two being Birmingham New Street and Birmingham Moor Street. The station plays an important role in providing local rail services for passengers on the Snow Hill Line.

The station has a staffed ticket office although passengers should note that it is not open in the late evening. Passengers are able to collect tickets purchased in advance (for example, on the internet) from one of a number of automatic ticket machines located outside the ticket office and on the main concourse.

Facilities at the station include a cafe, shops, toilet and baby changing facilities.

The majority of the services using the station are operated by London Midland and call at Worcester Shrub Hill, Kidderminster, Stourbridge Junction, Stratford-upon-Avon and Solihull. Chiltern Railways also use the station as a stop for its long distance service from London Marylebone.

The station has three platforms, however, new platforms for the Midland Metro are due to be built as part of its City Centre Extension to Birmingham New Street Station. A new viaduct has been built alongside the station as part of the Snowhill development to carry the tram lines into the city centre. The project is scheduled for completion in 2015.

London Marylebone Train Station

Located in central London, London Marylebone railway station offers passengers destinations including Birmingham New Street, Bicester North, High Wycombe, Banbury, Princes Risborough, Gerrards Cross and Aylesbury.

London Marylebone railway station is operated by Chiltern Railways and is the southern terminus of the Chiltern Main Line route to Birmingham, and the London to Aylesbury Line. Passenger services calling at the station are also operated by Chiltern Railways. Weekday services from the station include two trains per hour to and from Birmingham, one train per hour to and from each of the following destinations: Banbury, Bicester North, Princes Risborough, High Wycombe, Gerrards Cross and Aylesbury.

Facilities at the station include ATM's, pay phones, public wifi, cafes and shops, toilets and baby changing facilities. There are no car parking facilities at the station.

Compared to some of the other London termini, the mainline station's Underground links are poor. This is because the mainline station was opened thirty-six years after the Metropolitan Railway constructed the first part of what is now the northern section of the Circle Line which bypasses the station to the south. For mainline passengers wishing to use services on the Circle, Jubilee, Hammersmith and City or Metropolitan Lines, it may often be quicker to walk the short distance to nearby Baker Street station, than to make the journey on the Bakerloo Line and change trains there.
