The station has a staffed ticket office but passengers should note that it is not open late into the evening. Passengers are able to collect tickets purchased in advance (for example, on the internet) from one of the ticket machines located in the station.There are no WC or ATM facilities at the station although there is a cafe.The railway station is approximately 200 km from London and has two platforms. Platform 1 caters for trains travelling north to Nottingham and Lincoln. Platform 2 is for southbound trains travelling towards London, Leicester, Birmingham and Derby. On the station's upper level, above the Arcade concourse, stands a bronze statue of the former Poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman, gazing in apparent wonder at the Barlow roof and at the south end of the upper level, a 9-metre high bronze statue named The Meeting Place stands beneath the station clock.
